HPC Timeline to the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (EPC)
October 2014 — HPC members vote 42-0 straw poll to investigate dismissal from PCUSA
January 2015 —1st meeting of Presbytery’s Administrative Commission (AC) including HPC’s Georgia Riedel
March–May 2015 — AC conducts straw poll. HPC members overwhelmingly vote in favor of leaving PCUSA
Spring 2015 — Independent appraisal values HPC church and manse properties @ $1.67 million
Fall 2015–January 2016 — A CPA revises and approves HPC financial statements needed for Presbytery
February 2016 — Presbytery indicates total payment required will be:
$ 167,000 tithe on property +
16,700 legacy gift +
15,758 outstanding annual per-member fees [later adjusted in 2018 to $17,825]
$ 199,458 total [later adjusted]
Spring–Summer 2016 — Proposals and discussions between Session and AC
AC investigates and approves the EPC as a Reformed body for HPC to join
October 2016 — HPC Session meets with congregation to propose financial plan to pay the Presbytery
December 2016 — HPC members vote 43-1-1 to leave the PCUSA for the EPC and approve financial plan
January 2017 — The Hudson River Presbytery approves HPC’s dismissal to the EPC pending NYS Supreme
Court approval and final payments by HPC
Spring 2017 — Presbytery requests HPC reincorporate. HPC dissolves its old corporation and forms a new corporation with gracious help of new pro bono lawyer, Paul Siegert, an HPC member
Pastor Tom prepares the Session for upcoming EPC visit and examination on Reformed Christian beliefs and the EPC church
Summer 2017 — EPC pastors and elders visit to examine the Session. We pass the test!
Pastor Tom is examined by EPC pastors and also passes the test!
September 2017 — HPC and Pastor Tom are voted unanimously by the EPC’s Presbytery of the East as a new member church and an approved EPC pastor, pending dismissal by the PCUSA
Fall 2017 — NYS Supreme Court approves HPC’s mortgaging the manse. Mortgage preparation occurs.
January 2018 — HPC closes on mortgage for $100,000 with Sterling National Bank
HPC votes unanimously to approve revised plan to pay Presbytery $16,700 in 2019-22
Hudson River Presbytery overwhelmingly approves the same revised payment plan
Upcoming Feb/Mar 2018 — NYS Supreme Court approves transfer of property from Presbytery to HPC
HPC closes with Presbytery, pays money due, and receives full property rights
